Afrim’s Favourite Grilled Cheese

Sometimes, there’s nothing more satisfying than a perfectly cooked grilled cheese sandwich. Afrim believes that focusing on quality ingredients—great butter, bread, and cheese—elevates this simple classic.

Ingredients:

1 loaf of amazing multigrain sourdough bread, sliced ½ inch thick
2 slices of 3-year aged white cheddar (at room temperature)
2 slices of medium-aged Dutch gouda (at room temperature)
Top-quality grass-fed PEI full-fat salted butter (at room temperature)
Caramelized onion jam for dipping

 

Preparation:

  1. Build the Sandwich: Generously butter both slices of bread. Place both cheeses on one slice and close the sandwich.
  2. Cook the Sandwich: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a touch of butter. Place the sandwich in the skillet and rub it into the melted butter. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until dark golden brown.
  3. Flip and Finish: Flip the sandwich, add another touch of butter, and cook for about 2 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Rest and Serve: Let the sandwich rest for 1 minute before serving. Enjoy it dipped in caramelized onion jam.
